The price compared to online seemed fair enough. I am tiring of Windows 7 and it's lethargic outdated and tired OS. I was like many 'scared off' or let's say procrastinating like so many of the procrastinators out there. Once I purchased for myself. It was on me to evaluate where this product is and where it is going for real. So far so good!

Windows 8.1 is almost to Win 7 what Win 7 is to Win XP. Let's just forget about Vista shall we. For ease of use I give Win 8 an A+ and for it's entertainment features will do the same. I am not going to go into much detail here but I would say if you tired of Win 7 you should definitely give Win 8.1 a look. This is Windows for the modern day people.

This was a big change from Windows 7 for me, even though I have always used MS software. Most of the changes with this product are centered around making the PC feel more like a tablet or smart phone with pages of 'apps' instead of various destop file icons to click on. It helps a lot of you just think of each 'app-looking' box on the page as an old school icon.

My biggest problem so far is when I get to a page that is mostly blank, with one single 'app' to click on in the middle of the page. If the picture shown isn't the 'app' I need, it's not always clear how to get unstuck from there and move on. My personal work-around was to load Google Chrome and FVD Speed Dial and then use my customized speed dials to get around.

From the desktop I just click the Chrome Icon and I can avoid most of the 8.1 software pages (bonus: I hate MSN's homepage and this lets me avoid it completely). The operating system is alright I suppose, that is once you get a app to get your start button back. After we found out that Microsoft is ending all support for XP we decided to upgrade to windows 8 32 bit. 32 bit will allow us to run our older 16 bit programs.One problem though, Microsoft is expecting you to upgrade form Window 7, not older operating systems. We have not been able to load this OS onto our computer.We ended up getting Windows 7 32 bit. We didn't want to F disk our computer and start from scratch. We will use 7 until Microsoft stops support for it then upgrade to 8.It comes with two disks, one that's 32 bit and the other is 64 bit.It will probably works as a clean install, but if you are upgrading from XP, forget it.

I would wait or windows 9 if you can. I had no choice and had to get 8.1 the GUI is clumsy and it's made for touch screens. I use it in desktop mode only. The 'modern' apps that come with it are very basic and you feel as if you have little control. In desktop it runs rather well. Faster than 7 even. But at a cost.

It looks very basic. No pretty Aero theme like 7 has. But, it works atleast and isn't bloated like vista was. Use it if you have to but if you can hold out, wait for 9.

Oh, and if you like your start button windows 8 doesn't have it anymore. When you click start it goes to the full screen modern app page which is just a pain. Things that could take two clicks to access on 7 now take more or you have to search for them by name. I have been using Windows 8.1 for about a week now. It is very different but I am getting the hang of it. At first I didn't have an X at the top corner of the screen but I updated and that is there so make sure to update.

Finding simple things like my computer where your c drive and such is now called file explorer and so on. Only thing that I don't know if it is a glitch is the window icon sometimes doesn't work and I have to press the window button on my keyboard go into the metro screen and restart to make it work again. I purchased this at Walmart online as a convenience. It was supposed to be in stock and being only a mile from my house ship to store seemed an obvious choice. It said that I could pick it up the next day at the store but that morning I got another e-mail saying it was not in stock and I had to wait 3-6 days. It took over a week.

That is Walmart though. Windows 8.1 seems to run smooth and like I said after a day or 2 getting frustrated at it you will learn your way around. Pretty much anyway.
