MC3 - Can't Record Guitar and Vocals Simultaneously?I'm using MC3 with a Line 6 UX2 Toneport as my sound card. I have followed all the directions for recording from multiple channels, and I've tried to get all the settings where they're supposed to be, but I'm having the following problem.I have the Toneport set for mic and line as dual inputs. One goes out on record channels 1-2, the other on 3-4. In MC3, I have two audio tracks ready to go, one with the Toneport left as the input, the other has Toneport right as input. When I arm both tracks, they both pick up only one of the instruments.

One Vocal Mic + Stereo Pair on Guitar. If your final product will be a sparser recording, you may want the acoustic guitar to fill up more space in the mix. This is where stereo acoustic guitar recording techniques come in handy. A spaced pair of cardioid pattern condenser mics on the guitar often works well, as you can pan the left and right guitar mics nice and wide while focusing the vocal mic right down the middle.

If I go into Options-Audio, it lets me choose either channels 1-2 OR 3-4 as input, but won't let me enable both at the same time. So what I end up with is two audio tracks that are both recording guitar or both recording vocals, depending on whether I've enabled 1-2 or 3-4 in audio options. I can hear both the guitar and vocals coming out of my monitor regardless of the settings though.Recording vocals and guitar simultaneously is the main reason I bought all this crap, and so far it seems to be the one thing I can't do.

I've been struggling with this for the better part of a year now, and no one ever responded to my post on the Line 6 forum, so if anyone has any suggestions, PLEASE help. Otherwise, I guess I'm gonna have to cough up the $ for an Mbox and ProTools, which I really don't want to do, cuz other than this problem, I honestly think MC is actually the superior product.

Hi Christopher. MC should be able to record TWO simultaneous tracks. You can't record more than that - two is the limit - but the way you describe it should work fine in MC.IIRC, however, this seems to be a limitation of the toneport. I seem to remember reading a thread about the UX1 not being capable of sending two inputs at the same time. No where was that in the document, but this came from someone who had it that couldn't get it to work with any software and he finally got an answer (from what he said) from the toneport forum that it wasn't possible. I would think that the UX2 would be different since it's a better system than the UX1 but you might want to check over at the toneport forum and find out for certain.you could also try an experiment to verify if it's the toneport or if it's MC (which I really don't think it is - but it will confirm). Try downloading a shareware or free recorder like Audacity or Reaper and see if they will allow you to record simultaneously.

If they do, then we need to work on why MC won't let you - but if they don't, then it's likely in the toneport.here's the link to the toneport forum - I highly suggest you check there and see what they say. Thanks Beagle,I knew about the UX1 not being able to record two instruments, but all the documentation for the UX2 says its supposed to be able to do it. In fact the UX2 has what they refer to as 'dual input' settings in different combinations like Inst./Mic.

Inst./Line, etc. I posted the same question on the Line 6 forum and the answer was a resounding yes as far as Toneport's ability to record two instruments. Don't know why I can't make these two kids get along.I'm gonna try downloading Reaper and/or Audacity tonight and see if that works.

Thanks for the help! Thanks for the responses. I tried the using the Toneport with Reaper, and it actually worked just fine. In fact I ended up inviting a friend over and we recorded a song she wrote with guitar vocals, and some MIDI drums and strings. In MC3, I tried selecting each track as mono rather than stereo, and checked the outputs on the Toneport software to make sure it's on mono, but it still didn't work.

Very good point though, because I hadn't noticed that before, and I'm willing to bet that's been part of the problem.I'm gonna keep working on it, so if you have any other ideas, please feel free to share.

So, you’ve been wondering how to get the most out of your Zoom H2n right? Maybe you tried recording with it but didn’t really know how and where to place it, on which settings, etc.I did a lot of research and also recorded lots of songs on that recorder, so I hope to be able to teach you how to record vocals and Guitar using only the Zoom H2n.We will be going over which pattern you should be using, as also the placement of the microphone, since both of these are the most important part. Also, I will teach you how to set up the EQ settings and what other plugins I use to make it sound a lot better! Basic information about the Zoom H2n:Like many other portable recorders, the Zoom H2n has de capability of recording from the front, the back and full surround sound. You can switch between these configurations through rotating the knob on the top. It has four positions:The XY position; Which only records from the front, using two microphones that are in an XY configuration.

Most of the times you will be using this configuration. The MS position: The microphone elements are stacked on top of each other, one facing to the back on the H2N and the other two to the sides.
